In Northeast El Paso there had once existed a tall blue pyramidal structure built to announce the Sunrise Center. Until it was torn down, it served as a major landmark and icon of the city. Finding inspiration in its lore, Torre de las Flores creates a new icon that commemorates the original blue spire. The work also celebrates the fields of poppies that drape the surrounding hillsides in yellow and orange throughout the spring by imitating their ambiance with over
600 yellow titanium disks on the tower’s surface that move gently in the wind.
